Her Mother’s Daughter

HER MOTHER’S DAUGHTER is Lydia Gaston’s in-development solo performance, wherein she recounts growing up in the Philippines while being trained as a ballerina by her mother, (also her namesake). The older Lydia guides and pushes her daughter towards the most competitive and challenging places of all: New York City. The roles of mother and teacher, daughter and student collide, but underneath it all, is love. Her mother lives vicariously through her daughter’s performing career, first as a Principal Dancer with Ballet Philippines, and eventually as a musical theater actress on Broadway. When her mother is diagnosed with cancer, Lydia contemplates what will happen with her mother’s legacy as a dance teacher. What has she learned about her mother’s struggles, her disappointments, her triumphs?
